How prototyping has changed

In this post

001. How is prototyping changing?

How is prototyping changing?

I asked myself this in January. Still don't have a clean answer.

In many ways, it hasn’t changed at all.

But it’s also the primary activity where all of the change in software design is converging:

  1. Your Figma file becomes a live site.

  2. A prompt generates components you'd ship.

  3. An AI agent turns a wireframe into running code in an afternoon.

  4. Non-designers are creating more prototypes than ever before.

The State of Prototyping survey is live now — the first thematic survey of the year, replacing our old annual snapshot format.

We’ll be tackling one major industry question per quarter.

Your participation helps you make better decisions about where to invest your time and resources based on data instead of social media.

Takes about 4 minutes and closes in 2 weeks. Results available by April.
